The Municipal Council is made up of elected councillors from different wards of the town. The Council is the policy making body of the Municipality.

As required under Section 45 of the Local Government Act 2011the Council meets as often as the business may require and at least every fortnight in the Council Chamber for the formulation of policies and examination of all matters pertaining to the administration of the town.
